May 27, 2026 – Fans of vintage design, retro style, and mid-century modern décor will have the chance to step back in time next month during a new summer exhibit at the Madden Arts Center.

The Decatur Area Arts Council’s “Form & Function: A Mid-Century Modern Time Capsule” will open with a public reception Thursday, June 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display throughout the summer through August 7.

Organizers say the exhibit celebrates the bold colors, patterns, and design elements that defined the mid-century modern era. Earthy tones like olive green, mustard yellow, and burnt orange are paired with brighter accents such as teal and coral, while geometric patterns, atomic-inspired designs, and abstract forms help capture the era’s distinctive style.

The opening night event will feature music, themed food and refreshments, vintage-inspired décor, and immersive experiences throughout the Madden Arts Center.

Organizers describe the exhibit as a “stylish time capsule” designed to highlight the creativity, nostalgia, and visual identity of the mid-century modern movement.
