June 4, 2026 – A free trauma-informed care training session will be offered June 15 at Decatur Memorial Hospital for individuals who work in community-based organizations, healthcare, education or other settings serving vulnerable populations.
The training, presented in partnership with Heritage Behavioral Health Center, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in Classroom A at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
According to organizers, participants will learn about the impact of trauma, approaches for responding with compassion and creativity, and strategies for self-care. Continuing education credits will be available for attendees.
“The goal behind this training is to decrease the stigma around those seeking care for mental wellness,” said Sonja Chargois, community health consultant with Memorial Health. “Participants will learn practical tools for how to approach their work in a trauma-informed way and increase client engagement, outcomes and community wellness.”
Mary Garrison, president and CEO of Heritage Behavioral Health Center, said the organization is pleased to partner with Decatur Memorial Hospital to promote mental health awareness and trauma-informed practices throughout the community.
In addition to the in-person session, virtual training opportunities will be available June 16 and Aug. 11.
Registration is available online HERE. The training is offered at no cost.
