June 25, 2026 – The Decatur Public Library will welcome acclaimed Marvel Comics illustrator Jerry DeCaire for two special events on Friday, July 31, offering comic book fans of all ages the opportunity to learn from and watch one of the industry’s most accomplished artists.
The day begins with the Teen Marvel Comics Workshop from noon to 3 p.m. in Madden Auditorium. During the hands-on workshop, teens will learn comic illustration techniques directly from DeCaire, whose work includes titles such as X-Men, Wolverine, The Mighty Thor, and Iron Man.
Participants will start by creating a superhero profile using an easy-to-follow fractional drawing method before learning superhero anatomy and proportions. Attendees will then ink their artwork step-by-step using professional techniques demonstrated by DeCaire. The workshop concludes with a live Photoshop coloring demonstration. Several lucky participants will also receive free drawings and prints from the artist.

Later that afternoon, DeCaire will present a Live Drawing Marvel Comics Presentation from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Madden Auditorium. The all-ages event features a semi-animated slideshow explaining the comic book creation process, followed by a real-time drawing performance showcasing DeCaire’s renowned speed and artistic talent.
Known as one of the fastest comic artists in the world, DeCaire has illustrated numerous Marvel Comics titles throughout his career. During the presentation, audience members will have the chance to win signed drawings and color prints created during the live demonstration.
Both events are hosted by the Decatur Public Library and are designed to provide attendees with a behind-the-scenes look at the art and creativity behind comic book production.
