June 30, 2026 – The Decatur Family YMCA has officially begun its search for a new Chief Executive Officer, seeking a leader to guide the nearly 150-year-old organization into its next chapter of growth and community impact.
According to the YMCA’s executive vacancy announcement, the organization is looking for a “mission-driven, community-centered” executive to lead operations, strengthen community partnerships, expand fundraising efforts and oversee long-term strategic planning. Applications for the position will be accepted through July 27.
The next CEO will oversee an organization serving more than 7,000 members through programs that include preschool and childcare, before- and after-school care, Camp Sokkia, aquatics, health and wellness, senior programs and financial assistance initiatives.
The position calls for an experienced executive with a background in financial management, fundraising, strategic planning and community engagement. The YMCA says its next leader will work to strengthen the organization’s visibility, expand philanthropic support and continue building partnerships throughout Decatur and Macon County.
In the vacancy announcement, the YMCA describes the opportunity as one to lead “one of Central Illinois’ long-standing community institutions” while building on a strategic direction established by its Board of Directors and leadership team. The organization says it is seeking someone who can “honor the Y’s deep roots while bringing fresh energy, focus, and vision to its future.”
The Decatur Family YMCA currently serves 7,044 members and operates with an annual budget of nearly $4 million. The organization is led by a 15-member Board of Directors and employs leadership overseeing membership, childcare, aquatics, health and wellness, facilities, finance, development and human resources.
According to the posted timeline, preliminary interviews are scheduled for September, with a final selection anticipated in October and the new CEO expected to begin in November.
