August 2, 2026 -The Macon County Conservation District is inviting residents to help shape the future of Kaufman Lakeside Conservation Area during a public open house on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The open house will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. at Rock Springs Nature Center, where visitors can review proposed plans for improvements to the conservation area and provide feedback.

The proposed project includes the construction of a new hiking trail, a small parking lot, an interpretive shelter, a pollinator garden and a fishing pier. Conservation District officials say the improvements are designed to expand outdoor recreation opportunities and create another publicly accessible destination for residents and visitors.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view printed site plans, ask questions and share comments before the project moves forward.

Rock Springs Nature Center is located on Rock Springs Road on the southwest side of Decatur. Ample parking will be available for those attending the open house.
