RCC Introduces New Vice Presidents of Academic Services, Student Success

August 12, 2026 – Richland Community College is introducing two new members of its executive leadership team who are expected to join the college in September, pending Board of Trustees approval.

Dr. Sheldon Walcher has been selected as Vice President of Academic Services and will serve as Richland’s Chief Academic Officer. He brings nearly 30 years of higher education experience, including more than a decade in community college administration.

Walcher most recently served as Provost and Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs at Morton College. He has also held leadership positions at the College of Lake County and Kankakee Community College, as well as faculty positions at several universities.

Dr. Justin Willis has been selected as Vice President of Student Success and will serve as Chief Student Affairs Officer. He brings more than 20 years of experience in student recruitment, enrollment, financial aid and student services.

Willis currently serves as Executive Director of Admissions, Recruitment, Financial Aid and Veterans Services at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. His work has included initiatives focused on enrollment growth, first-generation students and expanding educational opportunities.

Richland President Cristobal Valdez said both leaders bring experience and expertise that will support the college’s strategic priorities and student success efforts.

The Richland Board of Trustees is expected to consider the appointments Aug. 18. If approved, Walcher and Willis are expected to begin at Richland on or around Sept. 8.
