August 27, 2026 – Macon County residents still have time to register for the Fall 2026 Community Public Safety Academy through the Dawson Civic Leadership Institute, an eight-week program offering adults an inside look at local public safety organizations and the work they do to protect the community.
The free program runs Tuesdays from September 8 through October 27, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided.
Participants will take part in hands-on experiences, facility tours and conversations with public safety professionals. The program includes visits to the sheriff’s office, jail, dispatch center and fire department.
The Community Public Safety Academy is designed to strengthen relationships between residents and public safety agencies by providing information, addressing misconceptions and giving participants a better understanding of local public safety resources and services.
Adults who live or work in Macon County and are 21 or older are eligible to participate. Applicants must consent to a criminal record check, meet program eligibility requirements and commit to attending the sessions.
Registration for the fall cohort closes September 1. For more information, click HERE.
