September 2, 2026 – Millikin University is once again opening its Requarth Observatory to the public for free Public Observation Nights this fall.
The events are held every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., beginning September 1st and continuing through early November, weather permitting.
Visitors can explore the night sky using Millikin’s primary 20-inch telescope, as well as several 8-inch telescopes located on the fifth-floor observation deck. Depending on weather and viewing conditions, guests may see planets, star clusters, nebulae and other celestial objects.
The free events are open to people of all ages and are led by Millikin students and faculty from the School of Chemistry and Physics.
The Requarth Observatory is located atop the Leighty-Tabor Science Center. Visitors should enter through the southeast entrance, which will remain unlocked during observation hours for elevator access to the observatory level.
