September 3, 2026 – ADM will host a Community Learning Day on carbon capture and storage September 15, giving community members an opportunity to learn more about the technology and ADM’s local operations.
The event will feature interactive exhibits showing how carbon dioxide is stored deep underground, along with visual displays highlighting local geology and the monitoring technology used in carbon storage.
Engineers, geologists and safety experts will be available to answer questions and provide information about the technology and its operation.
The event will also include information specifically for landowners, including safety standards, property rights and long-term stewardship.
ADM says the event will have a relaxed, self-paced format, allowing visitors to explore the exhibits, ask questions and learn at their own pace.
ADM has operated federally permitted carbon dioxide storage wells near Decatur for more than a decade. The company captures carbon dioxide from its corn-processing operations and stores it more than a mile underground in the Mount Simon Sandstone formation.
The Community Learning Day is part of ADM’s ongoing efforts to provide information about its CCS operations and engage with the Decatur community.
ADM says carbon capture and storage is an important technology for reducing emissions while supporting industrial operations and economic activity.
