September 8, 2026 – Two new signs have been installed on the Staley Viaduct as part of an ongoing effort by the Beautify Decatur Coalition to improve the appearance of Decatur’s industrial corridors.
The signs highlight Decatur’s industrial heritage and legacy. Solar lighting for the signs is expected to be installed in the near future.
The Beautify Decatur Coalition has completed several projects along the 22nd Street corridor, including installation of the Corn Fence, demolition of the former Firestone fence, removal of scrub trees and weeds, and planting 30 new trees.
The organization also installed a kinetic sculpture on the Mervis property and has promoted the Caterpillar sculpture at the north end of 22nd Street. Beautify Decatur and community volunteers have also conducted litter pickups along the corridor, including efforts with ADM volunteers.
