September 16, 2026 – The University of Illinois Extension and Macon County Conservation District will host Monarch Madness Saturday, September 19, at Rock Springs Nature Center.
The free, all-ages event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and will give attendees an opportunity to learn about monarch butterflies and their migration to Mexico.
Activities will include monarch butterfly tagging and release, pollinator-themed arts and crafts, butterfly yoga, a monarch life cycle obstacle course and short nature hikes. Frozen Spoon will also be on site for attendees to purchase ice cream.
The event is hosted by University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener and Master Naturalist volunteers in Macon County and is designed to highlight the role pollinators play in supporting ecosystems and communities.
Monarch Madness will be held at Rock Springs Nature Center, located at 3939 Nearing Lane in Decatur.
