September 17, 2026 – Helping Hands Food and Clothing Pantry in Decatur received an extra lift from volunteers with ADM’s Decatur complex.
The volunteers spent the afternoon at the pantry, located at Decatur First Church of the Nazarene, helping unload a truckload of nonperishable food items.
Helping Hands serves local families with food, clothing and spiritual support and is able to serve up to 500 families each month. The pantry receives a truckload of nonperishable food from the Central Illinois Food Bank and Feeding America each Tuesday, with volunteers helping unload and organize the deliveries.
Deb Hancock, Missions President for Helping Hands, said volunteers are an important part of the pantry’s operation.
“We depend on the younger community to help, and with monetary donations and the truck, we look to volunteers for everything. It’s how we survive,” said Hancock.
The ADM volunteers participated as part of the company’s Acts for Impact initiative, a six-week program that gives ADM colleagues opportunities to volunteer with local organizations and support community needs.
Hancock said the pantry appreciates the support from ADM volunteers.
“We’ve been excited about ADM coming out to volunteer, we appreciate all of it,” Hancock noted.
