November 4, 2026 – Millikin University and Eastern Illinois University are partnering to create a new pathway for Eastern students to pursue graduate degrees in athletic training at Millikin.

The new Master of Science in Athletic Training Direct Admit partnership will begin with the Fall 2027 academic year and guarantee placement opportunities for at least three qualified EIU students each academic cycle.

Eligible students must meet Millikin’s admission requirements, including maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA, completing at least 25 observation hours with a certified athletic trainer and providing proof of current Emergency Cardiac Care certification. The agreement also includes a waived application fee.

Millikin’s athletic training program combines classroom instruction with clinical experience and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

Graduates are eligible to take the national Board of Certification exam, a requirement for professional athletic training certification.

University officials say the partnership will expand graduate education opportunities while helping address the demand for qualified athletic healthcare professionals in Central Illinois and beyond.

Students interested in the program can learn more or begin the application process at Millikin.edu/MSAT-EIU. The application deadline is May 31st.
