Dip a candle like a settler at Homestead Prairie Farm

September 23, 2021 – Dip your own candle like a settler at Homestead Prairie Farm and learn how candles were important to nineteenth-century life. This Candle Dipping Workshop will be held outdoors on Saturday, September 25 at Homestead Prairie Farm at Rock Springs Conservation Area. Participants may register for one of two time slots: 1:30-2:30pm or 3-4pm. Space is limited to 6 people for each time slot.

This workshop is free, and open to adults and children ages 12 and up. Ages 12-15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Must pre-register online by noon on Thursday, September 23 at MaconCountyConservation.org. Wear clothes that could get dirty. In case of rain, the workshop will be held under the overhang of the woodworking shop at Homestead Prairie Farm.

Homestead Prairie Farm is built around the Trobaugh-Good House located at Rock Springs Conservation Area. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and embodies life on the Grand Prairie of Illinois in 1860.

Homestead Prairie Farm is located at Rock Springs Conservation Area, on the southwestern edge of Decatur, at 3939 Nearing Lane.
