October 12, 2021 – Macon County CASA is seeking volunteers to advocate for children in the community who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. With 316 children in the juvenile court system who are currently without a CASA volunteer, the need is urgent.
Becoming a CASA advocate does not require any special background. They are not lawyers or social workers. They are ordinary people from every walk of life who have a heart for children, are passionate about helping others, and have a desire to make a difference in their community. If you are one of those individuals, these are the requirements and steps you will need to take to become a CASA volunteer:
· You must be 21 years of age.
· Complete an online application.
· Consent to and pass a background check.
· Schedule a one-hour interview.
· Complete 30 hours of pre-service training.
CASA’s continued work and efforts are and will continue to be incredibly important and vital in ensuring a better tomorrow for future generations, but not without the help of dedicated community members.
The final CASA training class for 2021 begins Tuesday, October 26th, and runs for 6 consecutive Tuesdays. Classes are conducted online and are offered in both morning and evening sessions. CASA would like to challenge the community to help us fill this last class of the year with 30 new applicants to help bring us closer to our goal of an advocate for every child brought into care. If you are interested in becoming a CASA volunteer and joining the October training class, go to www.maconcountycasa.org to complete your online application or email Recruitment and Retention Manager, Lori McDaniel at lmcdaniel@maconcountycasa.org.
