March 27, 2020 – The Macon County Crisis Communication Team has announced the first two cases of COVID-19 in Macon County.
The first patient, a female in her 50’s is a patient at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital. The patient had recently traveled to a high-risk area within the US. The patient is said to be in stable condition. The second patient, a male in his 60’s, presented to the DMH respiratory clinic and has been self-isolating at home since symptoms began. He has also reportedly traveled to a high-risk area within the US.
The announcement was made at a press conference this evening at 7 pm in Macon County Office Building.
Because testing is not widely available to the general public, it is imperative that community members, whether feeling ill or well, implement social distancing best practices to limit the spread and contraction of COVID-19.
The Macon County Crisis Communication Team is comprised of City and County leaders as well as representatives from DMH and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, the Macon County Health Department, Crossing Healthcare, SIUE Family Medicine, Heritage Behavioral Health and IEMA.
