March 10, 2022 – Pay attention to your clocks as it is once again time to lose an hour of sleep. March 13 is Daylight Savings and it is important that you set your clocks one hour ahead before you end up sleeping in and being late to work or school.
Here is what you need to know. Sometime during the evening of March 12, add an hour to any and all clocks in your house. As soon as it hits midnight, it will technically take effect. But don’t take the risk of falling asleep without switching them.
If you are from Arizona or Hawaii and are mad at the world for offering one less hour of sleep, here is why we participate in daylight savings. The idea was first adopted globally after Germany introduced it in April 1916, two years into World War I. The rationale was to minimize the use of artificial lighting to save fuel for the war effort.
Today, we participate in Daylight Savings in order to make good use of the extra sunlight in the spring, summer, and fall evenings. It is assumed that with longer days and more sunlight later into the evening, people will spend more time outside.
Remember this saying, “Spring Forward, Fall Back.” It is springtime, so we are going forward one hour. Good luck getting some beauty sleep.
