September 16, 2020 – Today, the State of Illinois’ Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity joined the Black Chamber of Commerce of Illinois, small businesses as well as members of the community to begin work to build a brand new, state of the art business incubator that will serve Decatur and the Central Illinois region. The INC Spot will be a site that serves and assists small businesses and entrepreneurs with space, technology and necessary resources to launch and grow a business.
“The INC Spot will bring forward necessary resources to support our minority-owned businesses in realizing their full potential,” said Corey Walker, Executive Director of the Black Chamber of Commerce of Illinois. “Thanks to assistance from the state of Illinois, we are making investments today that will support the launch of a new state-of-the-art incubator to increase the health and the wealth of our minority businesses. Our goal is to help more minority entrepreneurs realize their dreams, which will in turn help strengthen our Illinois economy.”
The project will be located at 269 West Eldorado Street and will be set on a 12,000 square foot piece of land that will house up to 20 new businesses and entrepreneurs. It will provide the entrepreneurs with a variety of resources such as office space, on-site workshops, a business center, seminars, coaching and mentoring, and educational components that are designed for development and growth. The INC Spot is set to open in early 2021 and is the only minority-owned incubator that serves the city of Decatur and Central Illinois Region.
