September 15, 2022 – Members of local Knights of Columbus Councils will conduct the 52nd Annual Intellectual Disabilities Drive, more commonly known as the Tootsie Roll Drive, in the Decatur area this weekend to raise funds to help those with intellectual disabilities.
Decatur Council 577 will be collecting donations at the following locations:
- Walmart North (4224 N Prospect St) – Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Circle K (201 1st Dr, 1685 Baltimore Ave, 3810 E William Street Rd and 1315 Koester Dr, Forsyth) – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Before the St. Teresa football game versus Meridian at St. Teresa High School – Friday at 6:30 p.m.
- After all weekend Masses at Saints James & Patrick, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Thomas the Apostle
Mt. Zion Council 11582 will be collecting donations at the following locations:
- Walmart East (4625 E Maryland St) – Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Before the Mt. Zion Homecoming football game on September 23.
The Knights of Columbus are asking members of the community to support this important fundraising activity by dropping off donations at any of these locations. Donations can also be made by mailing a check to The Hall at Five-Twenty, 520 E. North St., Decatur, IL 62523 or Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Church, 400 N. Whitetail Circle Mt. Zion, IL 62549.
Decatur Council 577 contributes 90% of donations every year to Special Olympics Region I. Over 1,400 athletes in Region I compete in 15 sports and rely on the Knights’ support every year to assist with expenses with year-round training and hosting events, competitions and other activities. Mt. Zion Council 11582 also makes contributions each year to Special Olympics Region I and the Mt. Zion School District Special Education Programs. Both Councils also donate to the Illinois Knights of Columbus Charities.
