September 19, 2022 – The City of Decatur is again accepting proposals for the sale of the retired Decatur Fire Station #3 located at 1308 W. Eldorado St. in Decatur. Proposals are being accepted via email to jkindseth@decaturil.gov or by hard copy delivered to the Decatur City Manager’s Office on the 3rd floor of the Decatur Civic Center.
This property is highly visible, at a lighted intersection, and across the street from commercial businesses. It is 18,000 square feet with a 3,483 square-foot brick building. The facility, though originally constructed in 1926, has been well maintained as a Decatur Fire Station until its retirement in October 2021. More information about this site can be found here.
The City can accommodate viewings of the property if requested. Prospective buyers should provide an offer price (suggested minimum of $100k) along with a description of what they intend to do with the property both in the near and longer term. The City intends to sell the property to those who have the best plan for the property which meets the needs of this neighborhood and the community as a whole.
The City previously accepted proposals for this sale 10 months ago. City Staff began due diligence and explored the viability of several of the proposals but ultimately did not move forward with any plans. We welcome any of the interested parties from the first go-around to resubmit proposals for reevaluation.
For more information about this opportunity, you can contact the City Manager’s Office at 217-424-2801, or email jkindseth@decaturil.gov.
