March 6, 2023 – Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias toured Macon Resources Inc. in Decatur to celebrate MRI’s 40th anniversary as the state’s producer of license plates.
MRI’s license plate manufacturing plant produces an average of 5 million license plates annually, manufacturing over 140 specialty design plates. Additionally, as March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Almost 60% of MRI’s workforce includes persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
MRI has made Illinois license plates since 1983, consistently meeting state production and delivery schedules. MRI purchased and maintains the heavy industrial equipment including state-of-the-art digital technology needed to make the plates. In addition to standard Illinois license plates, they also manufacture specialty design plates such as university and military plates and special event plates.
MRI’s mission is to promote the growth, independence, and self-worth of children and adults with disabilities. MRI offers opportunities for adults through case management, community day services, residential services, job training and placement, community involvement, and a VISIONS Mental Health Program.
