No tornado siren tests today ahead of severe weather

Apr 4, 2023 | 8:34 AM

April 4, 2023 – Ahead of severe weather expected today the Macon County EMA will not be testing the outdoor warning system or tornado sirens as they normally would the first Tuesday of the month.

If you hear sirens today, please know that it is not a test and that it is a real event and to take shelter immediately. A siren today will indicate a tornado threat.

Tonight, a strong system will approach from the west and interact with a warm, moist air mass over the area. Thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of the front late this evening and continue into tonight. These storms are expected to become severe as they move northeast across the area. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are all possible across the area.

Northwest of I-55, there is the chance that some of the severe weather could be more significant, with hail over 2 inches and strong and long-lived tornadoes.
