DPS Magnet Programs Accepting Online Applications

December 9, 2020 – Decatur Public Schools’ three magnet programs are now accepting applications online for students interested in enrolling in a magnet program for the 2021-22 school year. This is the first year the magnet process will be done completely online.

Each of the magnet school programs will offer unique philosophies to draw students from all over the district. Any student living within District #61 boundaries are eligible to apply to a magnet school. Programs range from structured environments in which children wear uniforms to a curriculum that encourages independence. You can learn more about each program and submit an application now at www.dps61.org/magnet.

Again this year, interested families have the opportunity to submit a single magnet school application, ranking their interest in each of the three magnet programs. DPS will also host two virtual informational sessions, during which interested families can speak with the magnet program principals in order to get a feel for each program. However, as opposed to previous years, attendance at these informational sessions is not required to apply for magnet programs.

Online applications are open now through January 31, 2021. The District’s central office will then conduct an electronic lottery in February 2021 to fill the available seats in each magnet school program, and parents will be notified by email and/or phone call shortly after.

The following magnet virtual informational sessions are being held for interested families — please register to receive the Zoom link at www.dps61.org/magnet.

  • Wednesday, December 16 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom
  • Thursday, January 14 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom
