October 16, 2026 – The Decatur-Macon County Continuum of Care issued a statement and a “coordinated response” following the Oasis closure. The statement is listed below:

The Macon County Continuum of Care (CoC) recognizes that the closure of Oasis has created gaps in services for individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. We share the community’s concerns and remain committed to ensuring that our neighbors can access essential care, resources, and support.

After taking time to hear the concerns and perspectives of those involved and following up with Federal, State, and local funders that fund many of the CoC initiatives to end homelessness, the CoC Governing Board met today to discuss a collaborative plan and a clear, unified message that would best serve those in need. As a result, the Board reviewed available services and solidified its coordinated approach to connecting people with those resources.

Over 40 participating agencies are coordinating referrals, identifying unmet needs, and working together to address barriers to assistance. While a long-term solution is being developed, the CoC will remain responsive to emerging needs and work collaboratively to fill service gaps. The Illinois Department of Human Services Office to Prevent and End Homelessness (OPEH) has also offered technical support as we move forward with our community’s response.

Throughout this time, CoC collaborating agencies have continued providing daily outreach, meals, emergency shelter, healthcare, clothing, housing assistance, and other essential supports. These services remain central to our work, along with helping individuals navigate resources and take steps toward long-term stability.

A list of collaborating agencies, their available services, and specific ways the community can support their work will be shared early next week. In the meantime, residents, businesses, faith communities, and other partners interested in contributing funds, requested supplies, meals, transportation assistance, or volunteer time are encouraged to contact Dove-Homeward Bound using the information below. Staff will connect you with organizations in need of support to
continue providing essential services.

We want to reassure the community that we are just as committed today as we have been since the CoC was formed to meeting the needs of people experiencing homelessness in Decatur-Macon County. We appreciate the agencies, staff, volunteers, and community members who continue to respond with compassion and dedication. Our shared priority remains connecting people with the support they need while strengthening our community’s response to homelessness.
