Holiday shopping begins in November, even October according to survey

Holiday shopping – when is a good time to start? We’ve seen the ‘Christmas in July’ sales and hear of people completing their list as early as September. So what’s the norm? YouGov recently asked “Thinking of the holiday season, when do you plan on starting your holiday shopping this year?”

‘I will start in early/mid-November’ lead the way (17%) but not far behind were those who ‘already started my holiday shopping’ (16%). The middle ground of ‘will start in October’ came in third (14%).

Remember when it seems like the holiday shopping season started on Thanksgiving weekend with Black Friday sales? Some people still wait until then — the response ‘I will start near or during the Black Friday (Nov. 26) / Cyber Monday (Nov. 29) period’ got 11% of the votes.

There were a few last minute shoppers in the pack, 3% saying they wait until ‘within a week of Christmas Day’ to start their shopping.

What about you?
