Decatur Public Transit launches Sunday service

By Bryan Bridge Oct 7, 2022 | 4:23 PM

October 7, 2022 – Sunday bus service in Decatur begins this Sunday, October 9, 2022.

Decatur Public Transit System (DPTS) is implementing the one-year pilot program bringing Sunday service from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The service area strategically connects the city’s urban core to all major commercial areas and the two local hospitals.

“We’ve heard from our riders about the need for Sunday service and are excited to finally offer it,” said DPTS Transit Administrator Lacie Elzy. “Decatur transit is always looking for ways to increase ridership and we hope our citizens find greater mobility with buses now running every day of the week.”

After soliciting feedback from riders and citizens, the Sunday route map was finalized. A test run allowed the drivers to get used to the routes, and it helped with timing estimates. DPTS is providing estimates for when the bus will be arriving at bus stops and destinations. Please understand these are our best estimates based on the test run and they may need to be adjusted as we get used to the live service.

Paratransit services will also be available on Sundays. Citizens will still need to schedule paratransit rides 24 hours in advance. Sunday service is being funded by a combination of rider fees and state and federal operations grants. Fares for Sunday will be the same as M-Sat.
