June 13, 2023 – The Community Foundation of Macon County, in partnership with Decatur Memorial Hospital, will host the Mobile Museum of Tolerance (MMOT) from Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23.

The MMOT is a free, traveling education center that uses innovative technology and interactive lessons to teach messages of tolerance to communities across Illinois. As the first of its kind in the country, its goal is to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to promote human dignity and raise their voices against antisemitism, bullying, racism, hate and intolerance, according to a release from the Foundation.

The mobile museum will be available at the following dates, times and locations.

  • Monday, June 19 — noon-5 p.m., African American Cultural & Genealogical Society of Illinois, as part of their Juneteenth celebrations
  • Tuesday, June 20 — 1 p.m.-7 p.m., Decatur Memorial Hospital
  • Wednesday, June 21 — 12 p.m.-6 p.m., Decatur Memorial Hospital
  • Thursday, June 22 — 12 p.m.-6 p.m., Decatur Memorial Hospital
  • Friday, June 23 — 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Decatur Memorial Hospital

Community members ages 10 and up, according to the Foundation, can stop by the MMOT anytime during the times of operation and will have the option to watch videos on Anne Frank, civil rights, ordinary people, and modern antisemitism. Each video is 7-10 minutes long.
