History of the Heartland to launch Historic Preservation Week with History Showcase May 18th

April 25, 2024- History of the Heartland will launch its 6th annual Historic Preservation Week with a History Showcase on May 18th. 

The showcase will feature tours of many of the well-known historic locations in Decatur, including: 

  • The Millikin Homestead located at 125 North Pine St will be open from 11am-1pm. 
  • The Macon County History Museum and Prairie Village at 5580 North Fork Rd, will be open 1pm to 4pm.  
  • Hieronymus Mueller Museum at 420 West Eldorado, welcomes visitors from 1pm to 4pm. 
  •  The Staley Museum, located at 361 North College, opens its doors from 1pm to 4pm.  
  • Gov. Oglesby Mansion located at 421 West William, welcomes guests from 2pm to 4pm.   

Visitors are encouraged to take their time exploring each venue, and donations are welcomed.  

Guided tours may be available at some locations. Families are welcome, and many venues offer interactive exhibits and activities suitable for all ages. Local historians and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions. Parking may be limited at some venues so plan accordingly and consider carpooling or using public transportation.
