April 30, 2026 – Macon Resources Inc. has named Susan and Mark Avery as its 2026 “Champion of Change” award recipients, recognizing their impact on individuals with developmental disabilities in Decatur.
The honor comes after the Averys donated an office building in late 2025 that will be converted into an eight-person group home. The facility will provide independent living opportunities with supportive services for individuals who are capable of living on their own but still benefit from guidance and assistance.
Macon Resources President and CEO Amy Bliefnick says the donation will be life-changing, offering safe, quality housing while helping residents build more independent and meaningful lives. Once completed, the home will become the organization’s tenth group home.
The Averys say their goal was to invest in an organization that makes a daily difference, ensuring their property continues to serve the community in a meaningful way.
They will be formally recognized during Macon Resources’ annual Field Day event on May 7 at the organization’s campus on Hubbard Avenue. The community event begins at noon with an awards ceremony, followed by lunch, games, live music, and an art showcase featuring work created by individuals served by the organization.
Leaders say the event is designed to celebrate achievements while raising awareness of the abilities and contributions of people with developmental disabilities.
