May 6, 2026 – Fairgoers will get a free dose of classic southern rock this summer as 38 Special takes the Grandstand stage at the Illinois State Fair on Monday, August 17.
State leaders say the free concert is part of an effort to make the fair more accessible and enjoyable for families across Illinois. JB Pritzker said the fair remains one of the best opportunities each year to bring people together from across the state, and offering a no-cost Grandstand show allows more residents to take part in the experience.
The band, known for more than five decades of guitar-driven hits, has sold over 20 million albums and continues to draw crowds nationwide. Fans can expect to hear favorites like “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up in You,” and “Rockin’ Into the Night,” all staples of classic rock radio.
Jerry Costello II said bringing in a well-known act like 38 Special adds value to a day at the fair while creating a memorable experience for attendees.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand. No ticket is required, but attendees will need to pass through security screening before entering.
The 2026 Illinois State Fair runs August 13 through August 23 in Springfield.
