May 6, 2026 – The Decatur Park District is organizing a community-wide fan drive to help local residents stay cool and safe as temperatures begin to rise.

The collection event will take place Friday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Walmart North, where community members are encouraged to donate new box fans. The effort aims to support individuals and families who may struggle to stay cool during the warmer months.

Following the event, additional donations—both fans and monetary contributions—will be accepted at Scovill Park West Activity Center to continue supporting distribution efforts.

Organizers say the collected fans will begin being distributed to those in need starting Monday, May 18, helping provide immediate relief as summer temperatures approach.

The Park District says the initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to community wellness and encourages residents to participate by donating or spreading the word.
