May 13, 2026 – Millikin University’s Big Blue community came together in a major way this spring, helping the University nearly double its fundraising goal during the 2026 Forever True Blue campaign.
Held in conjunction with Founder’s Day celebrations on April 30, the annual giving campaign raised $685,839 in support of Millikin students — reaching 196 percent of its original $350,000 goal. The campaign brought together alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University during Millikin’s 125th anniversary celebration.
University leaders said the campaign reflects the enduring commitment of the Millikin community to student success and opportunity.
“Forever True Blue is more than a giving campaign. It is a powerful expression of the Millikin community’s belief in our students and in the future of this University,” said Dean Pribbenow. “As we celebrate 125 years of Millikin, we are reminded that James Millikin’s founding vision was made possible by generosity, partnership, and a shared commitment to opportunity.”
Each year, Millikin commemorates its founding on April 30, 1901, when founder James Millikin donated 35 acres of land and $200,000 to establish the University. He also challenged the Decatur community and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church to match his support — creating a tradition of collective giving that continues today through the Forever True Blue campaign.
This year’s fundraising effort placed a special emphasis on scholarships for current and future students. Donations made throughout April counted toward the campaign total, with additional matching gift opportunities helping donors maximize their impact.
According to Rick Darnell, the overwhelming response demonstrates the loyalty and generosity of the Big Blue community.
“Every gift to Forever True Blue helps open doors for students, and the response this year was truly inspiring,” Darnell said. “Our donors understand the life-changing impact of scholarships, and their support will continue to create opportunities for Millikin students for years to come.”
Founder’s Day festivities on campus included cake and punch, games, giveaways, a photo booth, a time capsule ceremony, a performance by the University Choir, and appearances by Mr. and Mrs. Millikin. The event invited students, alumni, faculty, and staff to celebrate the University’s history while looking toward its future.
Millikin’s 125th anniversary theme, “Forever Blue,” highlights the lasting connection between the University and the generations of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters who have shaped its legacy since 1901.
University officials say supporters can still contribute to the Forever True Blue campaign by visiting Millikin’s website.
