July 1, 2026 – Meridian CUSD 15 kindergarten through fifth-grade students will attend classes at the former Stonington Elementary School during the 2026-27 school year as the district continues recovering from storm damage at its Blue Mound campus.
District officials said the temporary relocation is intended to provide students and staff with the most normal school year possible while repairs continue.
School leaders thanked the Stonington Community Center and Tom May for making the arrangement possible.
“We are so incredibly thankful for the Stonington Community Center and Tom May,” the district said in a statement. “This opportunity and facility will afford our students and staff the most normal school year possible given the circumstances.”
Crews are preparing the building for students by completing a thorough cleaning, installing new flooring and replacing ceiling tiles in select areas.
Transportation plans will remain largely unchanged. Families who normally drop off or pick up students in Blue Mound may continue to do so at Meridian Elementary School, where students will board shuttle buses to the Stonington campus.
The district also plans to host an open house at the Stonington facility in early August after preparations are complete, giving families an opportunity to tour the building before classes begin.
The preschool program will remain at Meridian Elementary School in Blue Mound. District officials said they will continue to have access to the Pre-K classrooms, cafeteria and gymnasium, allowing preschool students to remain at their current location.
Additional information about the open house and the start of the school year will be shared with families as it becomes available.
