November 5, 2026 – The Salvation Army of Decatur officially kicked off its 2026 Christmas season Wednesday morning with its annual Red Kettle Campaign launch and a reminder that community support is needed throughout the holidays and into the new year.

In partnership with the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Decatur, the Salvation Army held its kickoff event Wednesday, November 4th, introducing this year’s theme, “Ring for Good.”

The event featured Alan and Rick of D-Dirty Burger, who shared their story of going from homelessness to shelter and eventually building a business together with their own food truck.

Salvation Army officials say this year’s campaign is about more than raising money during the holidays. Donations help the organization continue providing assistance to individuals and families facing hardship throughout the year.

Community members are now being encouraged to sign up for volunteer bell-ringing shifts at local Red Kettle locations. Individuals, families, businesses and community groups can choose their preferred dates, times and locations.

The Salvation Army is also encouraging residents to give what they can, helping ensure resources are available to meet local needs throughout 2027.

Volunteer sign-ups are available at RingForGood.org/Decatur. Those interested in volunteering can also call the Salvation Army of Decatur at 217-428-4672.
