The Christmas season is a time to remember those who hold a special place in our hearts. HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital invites community members to take part in its annual Christmas Star Lighting, a tradition that honors loved ones and celebrates the connections that bring people together.
Each light on the Christmas Star represents someone special. Community members can purchase a light in honor of someone meaningful in their lives or in memory of a loved one who has passed away for a suggested donation of $50.
Together, the lights create a symbol of hope, love and remembrance throughout the holiday season.
The annual Christmas Star Lighting Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, 1800 E. Lake Shore Drive in Decatur. Community members are invited to attend the in-person gathering, where the names of those being honored will be read and attendees will share in prayer and song. Names of those being honored will also be featured in a full-page spread in the Decatur Tribune.
To submit a Christmas Star tribute, complete the donation form atwww.stmarysdecatur.com/starlighting. Gifts must be received by Nov. 23, 2026, to ensure names are included in the ceremony program.
