June 27, 2023 – The Good Samaritan Inn is searching for volunteers to prepare and serve meals during afternoon lunch services this summer.
GSI’s Noon Meal Program provides lunch seven days per week to any person in the area who is in need, no questions asked. Volunteers are needed to prepare food throughout the morning and then serve those in attendance. According to GSI’s website, over 400 volunteers per month spend time in the kitchen and on the serving line, and slots to help out are still open throughout the summer.
Each shift is a two-hour commitment, from either 9-11 a.m. or 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Volunteers serving on the first shift will assist with food preparation tasks and those working the later shift will serve meals to patrons. Volunteer needs broken down by shift are as follows.
- Only 9-11 a.m.: Wednesday, July 12; Saturday, July 22; Tuesday, July 25
- Only 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Sunday, July 16
- Both shifts: Sunday, July 2; Thursday, July 13; Saturday, July 15; Wednesday, July 19; Monday, July 24; Sunday, July 30
Help from individuals, businesses, faith communities and more is welcome. 2-3 people are needed for food preparation shifts and 4-6 for serving shifts. Interested volunteers should contact GSI directly by calling 217.429.1455 or via email at outreach@goodsaminn.org.
