Deadline quickly approaching to enter Centennial Lake Fest car show

June 27, 2023 – The Centennial Lake Fest’s car show entry deadline is right around the corner, and organizers said slots still need to be filled.

As part of the upcoming Centennial Lake Fest, Decatur’s Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum and Vinnie’s Barbee-Q will sponsor a car show on the lakefront July 8 from 12-4 p.m. Those wanting to showcase their best cars and trucks must apply by the July 5 deadline.

“Best of Show” will be selected by a member of the Staley Family or an organizer of the Lake Fest, and each participant will receive a special, customized dash plaque commemorating the 100-year anniversary of Lake Decatur. Organizers currently have 40 cars but plan to cap at 120 entries.

LaVelle Hunt, one of the car show’s organizers and the owner of the Chevrolet Museum, said the event will be closer to a display for the Lake Fest than a true competition.

“It will be a beautiful setting for such a display,” he said. “I would be glad to help out, especially as it also ties into the renaming of one of the lake basins with the Staley family.”

There is no certain class of vehicles specified for the display. Attendees can expect classic cars, antique cars, special interests, exotics and even trucks.

“The public can expect to see a nice selection of cars and trucks in a unique setting never assembled before in this location tied into the rest of the Centennial Lake Fest,” Hunt said.
