Electors Officially Cast Votes Today

December 14, 2020 -Today, Electors will formally cast ballots for President and Vice President of the United States.

In Illinois, that will take place at 1oam in the Illinois House Chambers with Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White presiding.

When voters went to the polls on November 3, they were actually voting for presidential and vice-presidential electors. Electors from all 50 states (and the District of Columbia) are required to meet on this day in their respective state capitols to cast their ballots for President and Vice President of the United States.

On November 3, the people of Illinois voted for electors pledged to vote for Joe Biden for President and Kamala Harris for Vice President.

The House and Senate convene for a joint session on Jan. 6 to count electoral votes prior to the Inauguration on January 20th.
