December 15, 2021 – With the coldest time of the year approaching, people will be spending more time inside during the winter months. The amount of water consumed in households rises, which puts more stress on pipes, drains, and water heaters.

Todd Robinson, the owner of local plumbing and HVAC company Noah’s Plumbing, offered up some tips to avoid frozen pipes and other untimely repairs:

-Disconnect outside hoses to avoid frozen outside faucets.
-Close all exterior foundation vents to stop drafts from entering a crawl space.
-Seal up any other openings on the exterior of the home that may allow a cold draft to enter the home in the basement or crawlspace.
-Have your furnace or boiler checked to avoid untimely breakdowns.
-During extreme temperature drops, it may be helpful to turn on a faucet to a drip.  It’s harder for running water to freeze, for example, lakes freeze before rivers or streams.
