May 8, 2024 – HSHS Hospice is inviting members of the community to join a butterfly release ceremony at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday, May 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the St. Francis Healing Garden.
“This butterfly release ceremony provides a special time for families in our community to honor their loved ones. The butterfly represents the transformation of the spirit as our loved ones transition from this life.” says Valerie Engelbart, Bereavement Services Supervisor for HSHS Hospice.
Families and friends are encouraged to gather to celebrate and remember the lives of those who have passed. The ceremony will include reading the names of those being honored, followed by a touching butterfly release.
Valerie Engelbart added, “The butterfly release is a beautiful symbol of the journey of life and the enduring spirit of our loved ones.”
To participate, please RSVP to Valerie Engelbart, Bereavement Services Supervisor, at 217-685-0702 or email Valerie.engelbart@hshs.org. If you wish to release a butterfly for your loved one, you can reserve one for $15 prior to the ceremony. Secure your butterfly online at giving.hshs.org/sae/donate.
