Macon County Conservation District to hold open house Thursday for bike trail grant

May 14, 2024 | 10:04 AM

May 14, 2024 – The Macon County Conservation District will be holding an open house to give residents a chance to view the proposed plans for the Rock Springs-Fairview Park Bike Trail renovation, and to give any feedback or input on the plans. The open house will be held Thursday, May 16 from 5-6pm at the Rock Springs Nature Center.

The primary objectives of this project are to stabilize 1,000 feet of the Steven’s Creek bank, to prevent further erosion, to protect the bike path, improve safety for trail users, and to resurface a half-mile portion of the thirty-year-old asphalt bike path. Resurfacing of the trail will improve the quality of the trail, for bike riders and hikers, as the asphalt is now thirty years old and has developed many cracks and the edges are starting to loosen and crumble.

Residents will have a chance to view printouts of the plans, and feedback, comments, and questions are welcome and encouraged.
