June 3, 2024 – Kroger and members of the Decatur Police Department joined this past weekend in a new endeavor to fight hunger. The first “Pack the Cruiser” food drive in Macon County invited Kroger customers to donate non-perishable food for Northeast Community Fund. The Airport Plaza Kroger hosted the officers as they gathered donations in police vehicles at the store.

Northeast Community Fund called it a great day, reporting customers donated more than a ton — 2,146 pounds — of food and $564 in monetary contributions to support the organization.

Kroger spokesperson Eric Halvorson said, “These results display, again, the marvelous generosity of people in and around Decatur. Kroger is grateful to everyone who supported the drive with a contribution and to the Decatur Police officers whose presence made the event possible. With so many food banks and pantries struggling to keep up with demand, this community spirit will be a tremendous boost for the essential service of Northeast Community Fund. Thank you.”
