June 24, 2024 -The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that University Avenue will be closed at the Pershing Road intersection in Decatur beginning Tuesday, June 25. This improvement is part of the Pershing Road resurfacing project that began in 2023.
To complete the reconstruction, University Avenue at the Pershing Road intersection will be closed until July 15. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Pershing Road through the intersection. Signs and traffic control devices will be in place to direct traffic on Pershing Road through the intersection.
Local traffic will need to use alternate local streets to access University Avenue. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Four of Rebuild Illinois included approximately $12.1 billion of improvements statewide on 5,339 miles of highway, 533 bridges and 762 additional safety improvements.
