February 22, 2021 – U.S. Representative Rodney Davis announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration has awarded an Assistance to Firefighter COVID-19 Supplemental Round 2 grant in the amount of $2,244.10 to the Mt. Zion Fire Protection District. According to Deputy Chief Josh Hunk, the funds will be used to replenish their COVID-related personal protective equipment supplies of N95 masks, gowns, gloves, and respiratory protection.
“I’m a proud supporter of these firefighter grants in Congress because they are critical to helping our fire departments protect themselves and the communities they serve. This is particularly true as we combat the Coronavirus pandemic. Taxpayers in these communities pay into the system and it’s important they see the benefits,” said Davis.
The supplemental funding comes from the CARES Act which Congressman Davis voted for in March of 2020 to provide Coronavirus relief. It authorized FEMA to provide $100 million in supplemental FY 2020 funding for PPE and related supplies to the fire service community to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Round 1 funding announcements were made during the summer of 2020 and Round 2 allocates the remaining $31 million left in the program.
