Charley Pride was a part owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, and now they are paying homage to the late singer by naming a baseball field after him. The team announced the decision on Sunday (March 14th) and unveiled “Charley Pride Field” at the official Rangers spring training complex in Surprise, Arizona.

Via a statement the team said, “Introducing Charley Pride Field! You are greatly missed.”

Charley was a pitcher in the Negro Leagues in the 1950s and 1960s prior to his career in music. TMZ reports he held a part-ownership stake in the Rangers after joining a group that purchased the team in 2010. He frequently attended Texas Rangers Spring Training at the facility.

Charley died of Covid at the age of 86 in December.
