The funding is part of a statewide initiative led by the Illinois Arts Council to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. In total, more than $325,000 was distributed to 22 projects across Illinois.
Local officials say the grant will support the creation of public artwork designed to reflect community identity and highlight Decatur’s place in the broader American story.
The Decatur project is one of several selected in collaboration with municipalities and nonprofit organizations throughout the state. Organizers say the effort aims to celebrate local history, promote cultural engagement, and enhance public spaces through art.
State leaders say the program is intended to support artists while encouraging community participation in the upcoming anniversary celebration.
