April 20, 2026- Belt sander drag racing is set to return to Decatur as part of an anniversary celebration at ThinkWell Makerspace.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, running from 1 to 8 p.m., and will feature head-to-head races using modified and unmodified belt sanders on a custom track. Participants can bring their own tools to compete, with races beginning at 1 p.m. and including multiple heats and finals depending on turnout. Entry is free.

Organizers say competitors can enter either an unmodified division, limited to cosmetic changes, or a modified division that allows mechanical adjustments. Safety rules prohibit the use of compressed air or rocket-based propulsion.

The races are part of a larger anniversary market that will include local vendors, tours of the makerspace, and opportunities for the public to engage with the area’s creative community.

The event is free and open to the public, with parking available nearby at the library lot and downtown parking garage.
