April 22, 2026 -A family-focused science event is coming to the Decatur Civic Center on May 2.
The Impossible Science Festival will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the First National Bank Arena, offering more than 25 interactive stations centered on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The free event is geared toward all ages, with a particular focus on K–8 students.
Organizers say the festival will feature hands-on activities, community partners and food trucks, creating an engaging learning environment for families. The event is made possible by The Heart of Illinois Community Foundation and the Macon/Piatt Regional Office of Education.
Attendees can also purchase tickets to “Impossible Science Live,” a stage show featuring world champion magician Jason Latimer, scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Civic Center Theatre.
