April 27, 2026 – Gardeners across Central Illinois will have a chance to kick off the spring planting season at the annual Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Plant Sale.

Hosted by University of Illinois Extension, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on May 2 at the Macon County Fairgrounds in Decatur.

Shoppers can browse a wide selection of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants and hanging baskets, along with native plants offered by Master Naturalists. Volunteers will also be on hand to provide guidance and answer questions, helping attendees choose plants suited to their gardens.

In addition to plants, the sale will feature a “bargain shed” with gently used gardening tools, pots and supplies.

Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early for the best selection. Donations for plants will be accepted by cash, check or credit card, and while advance registration is requested, walk-ins are welcome.

The annual event serves as both a fundraiser and an opportunity to connect the community with local gardening expertise.
