May 13, 2026 – The City of Decatur is inviting the community to kick off National Public Works Week with a free Touch-A-Truck event on Monday, May 18.
The event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in front of the Decatur Civic Center and will give families and residents the chance to get an up-close look at the vehicles and equipment used to maintain the city’s streets and infrastructure.
Attendees will be able to view and climb inside a variety of city vehicles, including grapple trucks, tree trucks, backhoes, end loaders, street sweepers, dump trucks, hammer trucks, valve trucks, hydro excavators, and more.
City employees will also be on hand to explain how the equipment is used to support public works operations throughout Decatur.
National Public Works Week runs from May 17 through May 23 and recognizes the professionals who help maintain essential infrastructure and public services in communities across the country. City officials say the event is an opportunity to celebrate and thank Decatur’s Public Works team for the work they do every day.
